Hyderabad: The Congress Government in Telangana has so far sanctioned three lakh houses under the Indiramma Housing Scheme, aimed at providing permanent shelter to the poor across the state.
This large-scale initiative is part of the government’s broader mission to eliminate huts and make Telangana a model state in housing for the underprivileged.
The details were revealed by State Revenue, Housing, and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy during a review meeting with officials on Monday.
“While no other state government in the country is constructing houses for ₹5 lakh each, Telangana is going ahead and building them without depending on central housing schemes,” he said.
He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Indiramma government is turning the dreams of the poor into reality.
“In the past, the poor in Telangana could only dream of owning a home due to the negligence of the previous government. That dream is now becoming a reality,” he said.
4.5 Lakh New Houses:
So far, 3 lakh houses have been sanctioned under the new Indiramma housing scheme, out of which 1.23 lakh are in various stages of construction. The state government has set a target to construct 4.5 lakh houses, allocating 3,500 houses per constituency at a total cost of ₹22,500 crore.
To support the construction, the government is offering 40 metric tonnes of sand free of cost for each house. Moreover, to ensure transparency and eliminate delays, payments for house construction are being credited directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts every Monday, the minister noted.
Identify available land in towns
He urged officials to focus on improving performance in districts that are lagging behind in implementation and to expedite planning for the construction of houses in urban areas.
With progress already being made in rural Telangana, he directed officials to identify available land in towns and cities and prepare action plans for immediate implementation.
He specifically mentioned urban centers such as Greater Hyderabad, Warangal, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Nalgonda, where the same model should be adopted for rapid housing development under the Indiramma scheme.
