Congress-Ruled States Surge Ahead in Per Capita Income

Congress-ruled states are surging ahead in per capita income, despite the NDA-led central government allegedly creating several political hurdles. Telangana and Karnataka have secured the top two positions in the country in terms of per capita income for 2024–25.

Economic experts note that this growth reflects the governance capacity of Congress states. They point out that, while ensuring welfare schemes for the people, the governments have also focused on the development of industrial, agricultural, and service sectors.

For the first time in five years, Telangana has recorded the highest per capita income in the country at ₹3.87 lakh, followed by Karnataka with ₹3.8 lakh. Analysts say this demonstrates how Congress-led states are setting benchmarks in economic growth for the rest of the country.

According to TPCC leaders, this progress was possible through inclusive growth across all sectors. They cite reforms in education and employment, expansion in IT, pharma, and AI, along with record-high grain yields in agriculture, as key factors. Countering criticism from BJP and BRS that Congress guarantees are pushing economies into collapse, Congress leaders argue that the rise in per capita income is a fitting reply to such allegations.

Bhatti Vikramarka Officially Announces

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, in a meeting with bankers, officially announced that Telangana stands first in the country in per capita income. This, he said, directly refutes BRS’s claims of economic decline in the state.

On the issue of inflation, economists explain that what the opposition calls a “crisis” is actually a temporary price drop driven by a bumper agricultural harvest in 2024. Welfare measures such as loan waivers of up to ₹2 lakh for 25 lakh farmers, ₹9,000 crore disbursed through Rythu Bharosa in just nine days, bonuses for selected crops, and free electricity for agriculture have significantly boosted yields.

This surplus production has lowered food prices, providing much-needed relief to rural families. Congress leaders accuse BRS of spreading false propaganda on inflation.

Despite the Centre ignoring crucial issues such as BC reservations, delaying clearances for metro expansion, stalling irrigation project approvals, and withholding funds, Telangana continues to forge ahead in economic growth. Analysts say this demonstrates how Congress-ruled states are overcoming central government discrimination to emerge as role models in both development and welfare.
