Hyderabad: Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar launched a scathing attack on BRS MLC K. Kavitha, questioning her right to speak on BC issues given her party’s track record. He asserted that the Congress government, under the leadership of CM Revanth Reddy and guided by Rahul Gandhi’s vision, had taken a historic step by passing the BC Bill and forwarding it to the Governor.
“Where was Kavitha’s voice when the BRS was in power for ten years and did nothing for the backward classes?” asked Ponnam. He claimed that the BRS completely ignored BCs during its rule, and those who remained silent back then now have no moral right to comment on BC welfare.
Targeting Kavitha, he said, “She’s the kind of leader who demands a recommendation letter even to serve meals at a satram (community kitchen). Hollow gestures without substance won’t help.” He further stated that Congress leaders – from the CM to PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud – are firmly committed to BC upliftment, unlike the previous regime which, he claimed, only paid lip service.
Let’s discuss with the PM
Ponnam extended a respectful yet pointed appeal to Rajya Sabha MP and prominent BC leader R. Krishnaiah, urging him not to align with those who neglected BCs. “You command respect, Krishnaiah garu.
Don’t sit with people like Kavitha who ignored our communities. As your younger brother, I request you – come to Delhi with us. You fix the appointment with the Prime Minister, and we will all go together and demand justice for BCs,” he said.
He emphasized that Rahul Gandhi has been a strong advocate for BC rights in Parliament, and that the Congress government is working with sincerity and a clear vision for BC welfare.
Calling for unity, Ponnam said, “Whether it is KCR or the powers that surrounded him, let anyone join us now in fighting for BCs. But don’t politicize the BC Bill.”
He concluded by reiterating that 56% of Telangana’s population comprises BCs, and the Congress is determined to work for their upliftment without political calculations.
